Glebe House Tour

Join us as we celebrate St. James Day with a tour of the Historic Abingdon Glebehouse! First mentioned in a letter to the Bishop of London in 1724, the Glebehouse is one of the oldest buildings on the Middle Peninsula. The Glebe itself (65 acres) was given to the Colonial Anglican churches in the late 1600s and the Glebehouse was built shortly after to house the priest who served the local churches and schools.

The Glebehouse is one of the finest examples of Flemish Bond brick construction with beautiful glazed headers. It is also one of the oldest American examples of hipped roofs and 4 pane windows, making it an important part of not only Gloucester and Virginia but American history as well.

All are welcome to attend this free tour beginning at 12:30 on Sunday the 24th. St. James On-the-Glebe is located behind Ken Houtz Chevrolet off of Route 17. Follow the white picket fence back to the gravel lane through the fields and you will see the Glebehouse.
